Clinic and Location

Euromedica General Clinic of Thessaloniki was founded in 1978 and developed into one of the largest private nursing organizations in Northern Greece. In the clinic, operations and procedures of all specialties are carried out using state-of-the-art medical equipment under the guidance of experienced and specialized medical staff.
All departments and laboratories of the Euromedica General Clinic of Thessaloniki are certified with ISO 9001:2015, while the Clinic’s laboratories have been accredited for a large part of the examinations they carry out, according to the ISO 15189:2012 standard. In addition, the ophthalmology department of the Clinic is certified according to the ISO 15224:2017 standard.
Our Consultants
Theo Empeslidis

Mr. Empeslidis has been trained in Ophthalmology in Greece and the UK; and has a fellowship in Medical Retina at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Additionally, he has undertaken further training in uveitis with Professor Murray in Birmingham. Mr. Empeslidis was the leading Consultant Ophthalmologist of the busy ARMD service at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and has been awarded the prestigious Clinical Excellence Award from the Macula Society UK in 2013.
Mr. Empeslidis is extremely active in research and he is currently the Principal Investigator of several randomised controlled trials in retinal disorders. He is also looking after patients with age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal dystrophies, vein occlusions and uveitis. Mr. Empeslidis is actively publishing in peer reviewed journals and has an extensive publication track record.
He has trained over a dozen fellows over the last few years. He has also organised the Leicester OCT course running once a year. Furthermore, he has been instrumental in organising a local retina group of retina specialists in the east midlands area of England. He is participating in ESASO and retina academy and he is invited speaker to all the major retina congresses. He is on the editorial board of many high impact factor journals.
Mr. Empeslidis recently embarked on a major research project in the pharmaceutical industry to develop new molecules and medicines for the treatment of various retinal diseases and is continually applying all the latest medical evidence and knowledge in his daily clinical practice. Discovering new treatments for patients’ unmet treatment needs is of paramount importance for future drug development.
Prof. Dr. Georgios D. Panos

Prof. Dr. Georgios D. Panos is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a special interest in Cataract Surgery, Vitreoretinal Surgery, and Medical Retina at AHEPA University Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece, and Queen’s Medical Centre at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, United Kingdom. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology – Retina within the School of Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and an Honorary Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences within the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham, UK.
Dr. Panos graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2007 and received his Doctoral Degree in Medicine after completing his doctoral thesis (research MD) at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in 2013. He completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the University Hospitals of Fribourg (Switzerland), Alexandroupolis (Greece), and Geneva (Switzerland), receiving his Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology (Board Certification) in 2014.
During the last six months of his residency training, and after its completion, he worked as “Chef de Clinique” (Chief Resident – Junior Consultant) in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, Geneva University Hospitals, Switzerland, for 27 months. In January 2015, he moved to the UK, where he completed fellowships in Medical Retina, Cataract Surgery, and Vitreoretinal Surgery at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, University of Cambridge; Whipps Cross University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust; and Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
His teaching experience includes serving as a Tutor of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, Switzerland, for two academic years (2012-13, 2013-14), lecturing fifth-year medical students on various ophthalmology topics. He was also an invited faculty member for the Master’s program “Imaging in Ophthalmology” at the School of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, from 2015 to 2019. From October 2012 to December 2014, he was responsible for training ophthalmology trainees at Geneva University Hospitals, Switzerland. Since 2015, he has been actively involved in the clinical and surgical training of ophthalmology trainees and fellows in the UK. He was appointed Honorary Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Nottingham (UK) in March 2023 and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in June 2024.
Dr. Panos serves on the editorial and advisory boards of thirteen prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals, is a regular reviewer for several journals, and is a full member of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), The Sigma Xi Society, and the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS). His research primarily focuses on ocular pharmacology, retinal diseases, vitreoretinal and cataract surgery, and ophthalmic imaging.
Antonis Aristeidou

Doctor Antonis Aristeidou is a Scientific Associate of the 3rd University Ophthalmic Clinic at A.U.Th. He is a Specialist in Refractive Surgery & Keratoconus, and serves as MEEI Visiting Physician at Harvard University, Boston, USA.
He is a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Ioannina. He specialized in Ophthalmology at the Hospitals: G.N. Serron and G.N.G. Papanikolaou of Thessaloniki for 4 years, and specialized for 2 years at the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis in the field of Refractive Surgery and Keratoconus.
In December 2010, he was awarded a Doctor of the Democritus University of Thrace (D.P.Th.) with the grade of Excellence. He was a visiting physician at Harvard University, in Boston, USA. He is the Scientific Manager of the EyeRobotica center and is a member of many ophthalmological societies, having taken part in numerous Panhellenic and International Conferences.
